The rise of the billionaire Thaksin, the mass protest movement against him and the
subsequent coup d ´e´tat, the emergence of the redshirts movement and the recent
election of Thaksin´s sister Yingluck as prime minister Thailand´s political dynamics over the last
few years have been breathtaking. But what is driving this incredible politicisation of Thai society? This panel promises a unique discussion on
the perspectives of the redshirt movement and the future of democracy in Thailand.
