It’s very difficult to say who started shooting first. But I think it was the anti-government people who started shooting (first). They definitely had more guns. I saw one of the Red Shirts shooting toward the Yellow Shirt protesters. But the Red Shirts were definitely outgunned. They had even rifled that were shot at and there was a massive amount of bullets coming toward where I was. The police and everybody were crouching down. Bullets were flying around; ricochets are spinning off.
It was difficult to say how many Red Shirts were injured. I have seen one old lady who was shot in the chest and the arm and another man who has got the ricochet into the head. And possibly, I have seen a photo of Red Shirt who was lying possibly dead under a bridge, but it was not clear yet if he was killed. But definitely, he was wounded quite possibly head wound. He was for a while stuck in the fighting zone.
Nick, you painted a very clear picture there. Were these attacks you have described provoked in anyway?
Obviously, both groups hate each other since the past eight years. So the people supporting the election, the Red Shirts are enormously strained after months and months of the deliberating protests. So they are very angry. So obviously when both groups meet each other, there was enormous aggression in the air straight away. Both hate each other
Nick. how would you describe the overall atmosphere among the crowd at the moment right now?
I mean at the moment, I’m still on the so called Red Shirt side. There are not too many people around anymore. There is a big shock. And I have heard that security forces have kind of negotiated with both groups to disperse themselves. It seems to me right now there are still gunfights. It’s still really really bad. There were moments when I thought I'm not going to survive it.
